Eye Doctors of Washington has an exciting career opportunity for an Optometric/Diagnostic Technician in our Chevy Chase, Md. office. We are a progressive, multi-location, fast paced ophthalmology practice. Interested candidates should be comfortable working independently and as a team member. Eyecare Services Partners will now only consider candidates who can verify prior to hire that they either have been fully vaccinated against the Covid 19 virus or have started the vaccine process by having their initial dose before starting in their new position and are committed to completing that process within 30 days of starting work. The right candidate with some medical background would be accepted, as we do have a significant training program.





Clinical Duties

  • Escort all patients from the waiting room for data collection. Following testing, advise them as to who will see them next and regularly check on patients to ensure they are comfortable while they are waiting.
  • Acquaint all new patients with the office procedures to which they will be exposed. Inform patients of the purpose of all tests personally performed and how they will be affected during the tests.
  • Maintain a smooth flow of patients to the physician, altering the test sequence as required.
  • Obtain and concisely record patient history to include chief complaint, history of present illness, past medical history (ocular and general), family history (ocular and general), social history, history of any allergies, and medications.
  • Perform accurate and consistent documentation and measurement tasks.
  • Perform duties consistent with ophthalmic writer/scribe if applicable.
  • Provide telephone support regarding ocular emergencies, prescription refills and patient care questions.
  • Communicate with reception and location lead ophthalmic technician to facilitate proper patient flow.  


Administrative Duties

  • Assist with other support activities, to include packaging and sterilizing equipment and supplies, ensuring cleanliness of patient exams room and other administrative or clinical duties as assigned by Doctor Leads, Location Leads, or Clinical Supervisor.


  • High school diploma
  • Minimum 2 years experience as an ophthalmic technician
  • Must be proficient with the following skills:
    • History Taking
    • Visual Acuities
    • IOP (via applanation tonometry and tonopen)
    • Auto Refraction
    • Lensometry
    • Topography
    • Biometry (Lenstar, IOL Master, and Immersion A-scan)
  • Willing to travel between multiple offices in the DC Metro area
