The Scrub technician or the Certified scrub technician is a member of the surgical team who works with surgeons, anesthesia personnel and other surgical personnel in delivering patient care and assuming appropriate responsibilities before, during and after surgery procedures.
A. Demonstrates knowledge of surgical procedures.
B. Demonstrates knowledge of equipment and their use in the surgery environment
C. Demonstrates knowledge of a scrub technician’s duties
D. Demonstrates knowledge of a scrub technician’s duties
E. Opens and prepares the surgical suites each morning
F. Is responsible for running and documenting autoclave biological per policy
G. Is responsible for maintaining and being familiar with each equipment tray used.
H. Pulls cases for each case the day before and as needed.
I. Assists in the room turn over between cases.
J. Is aware of and performs proper aseptic technique at all times
K. Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, center/service safety, and specific job related hazards.
L. Follows the center exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
M. Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
N. Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a center/unit team inter- and intracenter to facilitate the center’s/unit’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.
O. Maintains accurate documentation.
P. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
1. High School Diploma
2. Certified Surgical Tech certificate
3. Or 3 years of multi-specialty experience
4. CPR/AED on hire or within 90 days of hire
