    The RN - Operating Room Circulate is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and coordinating patient care from admission to discharge in the preoperative setting.  The Registered Nurse is responsible for the achievement of patient outcomes through the implementation of critical pathways and in accordance with the mission of the surgery center.

     

    Responsibilities

    • Work with all members of the health care team to provide optimal care to the patient, throughout their surgical / procedural experience.
    • Maintain a friendly, positive and caring attitude with all patients, physicians and staff.
    • Prior to surgery, gather all supplies needed for each case.
    • Prepare the operating room for surgery, plug in and turn on all necessary equipment.
    • Monitor/document the temperature and humidity of the operating room.
    • Gather necessary drugs and mix medications that will be used that day.
    • Assist the anesthesiologist with supplies and medication they may need.
    • Position microscope, phaco machine and any other equipment that may be used.
    • Verify consent with the doctor's clinic notes and pre-op scheduling sheet.
    • Verify IOL style and IOL power.
    • Verify allergies and any breathing problems with patient.
    • Supervise the surgical skin prep of the patient.
    • Complete all paperwork required for each IOL.
    • Complete the intra-operative record.
    • Perform "TIME OUT" before the start of each procedure.
    • If tissue is obtained for pathology, complete appropriate paperwork and prepare specimen for the lab.
    • Complete, save and print out op-report on computer.
    • Maintains supplies in the operating room, if supply is low notify OR/Nursing Team Leader and place item on the ordering list.
    • Performs other duties as requested and participates as a team member.

    Qualifications

    • Current RN licensure in the State of California
    • BLS certification required
    • ACLS certification required
    • PALS certification desired
    • A minimum of 2 years of operating room experience is preferred
    • Preferred accomplishments include experience in out-patient surgery
    • Ability to interface well with supervisors, other staff, administrator, doctors and especially patients
    • Maintain excellent physical and mental heath in order to meet the demands of the position
    • Knowledge and clinical skills to perform the job duties of an operating room nurse
    • Knowledge of anesthetic agents and complications, and ability to handle emergencies is required
    • Must have an aptitude for understanding, use of, and troubleshooting equipment
    • Ability to make quick assessments of patients and be able to handle emergency situations appropriately
    • Possess excellent time management skills
