  • Overview


    Shasta Eye Medical Group performs surgeries that do not require hospital admission. Procedures are performed in a fully equipped operating room and recovery is under the care of highly skilled nurses. Surgeries performed include procedures related to ophthalmology. We are seeking a Perioperative Staff RN with previous, verifiable experience in eye procedures, such as cataracts, retina, cornea and glaucoma. 

    • Monday Thru Thursday
    • 32 hours per week; 8 hour work days; Hours can be Flexible
    • No Weekends, Holidays, or On-Call Hours.


    Roles and Responsibilities:


    The Perioperative RN is responsible for the safety and care of the patients while in the pre-operative and post-operative areas. This position is responsible and accountable for the delivery of individualized nursing care to patients both prior to administration and immediately following the emergence from anesthesia for surgical intervention. Incorporating current clinical knowledge with established nursing practice, he/she performs nursing interventions utilizing the nursing process. By assessment of the individual patient and the scheduled surgical procedure, he/she anticipates the needs of the patient and provides for those needs while maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment.  The nurse will be engaged throughout the care lifecyle including having duties in admit, pre-op, post-op and OR.


    Required Skills and Experience:

    • Graduate of NLN Accredited School of Nursing
    • BLS certification is required
    • ACLS certification is highly preferred and will be required within 90 days of hire
    • CA State licensure as Registered Nurse
    • Familiar with the basic nursing performance standards.
    • Ability to assess patients’ needs: physical, educational, emotional, spiritual, and age appropriate.
    • Knowledge and experience in peri-anesthesia patient care with a minimum of 1 year experience as a Perioperative RN or Critical Care Unit RN. Ambulatory PACU is preferred.
    • Possesses skills and knowledge in the following areas:*
      • Principles of organization
      • Physical Assessment of body systems
      • Cardiac rhythm interpretation
      • Pharmacology related to anesthetic agents and their effects on the post operative patient
      • Knowledge of patient rights
