Ophthalmic Technician Needed For Our Team


Delaware Eye Intitute has a dedicated group of expertly trained doctors and staff committed to providing the highest quality medical and surgical eye care. Known for our compassionate approach to patients and their families, we provide a caring environment that encourages patient education, and we focus on answering all patients' questions. 


As a multi-specialty group, each year our ophthalmologists and optometrists see thousands of new patients of all ages, from infant to adult, for routine eye exams, as well as performing thousands of eye operations each year for cataracts, macular degeneration, glaucoma and diabetes, and functional and aesthetic eyelid problems.


Our Ophthalmic Technicians are a vital part of our clinical team and require the ability to clearly and effectively communicate with a diverse patient base. They are responsible for comforting patients while performing necessary diagnostic tests and measurements that instills patient confidence in their treatment.


Ophthalmic Technician Responsibilities:

  • Obtain ocular and systemic medical histories to include chief complaint, history of present illness, past history, family history and allergy and medication history.
  • Perform accurate and consistent diagnostic tests and measurements, and document same.
  • Have the ability to measure and record the following measurement tests (and other tests as required):

    • A-scans

    • Visual fields

    • Fundus photos

    • OCTs

    • Refractions

    • Fields

    • Topography

    • Brightness acuity test

    • Tonopen

    • Applanation

    • Pachymetry

  • Maintain optical and surgical equipment.

  • Assist in minor office procedures, including the sterilization of instruments.

  • Ensure the exam lanes are clean and stocked with appropriate supplies.

  • Ensure the patient lobby and clinical working area is neat and clean.


The Ophthalmic Technician Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One to five years of experience in a clinical setting, preferred.
  • Experience as an ophthalmic scribe or technician preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with EMR and EPM (NextGen is strongly preferred but not required).
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be a well-organized, team-player with great attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate superior computer skills.
  • Highly energetic with positive attitude.
  • Must be willing to travel to other offices occasionally to meet the demands of business.
