    Ophthalmic Assistant Needed For Our Team


    Katzen Eye Group was established in 1968 and offers all eye care sub-specialties and surgical procedures.  We achieve the best results for our patients by having a team of doctors and staff that care about our patients.


    We are seeing an actively engaged and enthusiastic Ophthalmic Assistant who wants to work closely with patients and team members and provide chair-side doctor assistance; perform diagnostic tests as required by provider, and administer treatment as allowed and ordered by the doctor.


    Ophthalmic Assistant Responsibilities:


    Clinical Skills:

    • Obtain patient history to include chief complaint, history of present illness, past history (ocular and general), family history (ocular and general), and history of allergies and medications
    • Use of Autorefractor and Lensmeters (automatic and manual)
    • Perform Visual Field tests, OCT, Fundus photos, A-scans, B-Scans, Cell Count, Slit Lamp Photos, Epic Refracting Systems, Non-Contact Tonometry, Orbscan, Wavescan & Pachymetry
    • Perform Visual Acuity and Pinhole tests
    • Perform Applanation Tonometry
    • Act as scribe for physician
    • Certified to perform CPR and AED
    • Ensure that exam rooms are tidied between patients, cleaning counter tops, floors, tonometer tips and sanitizing equipment.  Maintain proper care & maintenance of all equipment in clinical areas.
    • Prepare for C.O.A. exam (to be taken within 12 months)


    Communication and Patient Care:

    • Interact with all patients using the level of respect and professionalism required by this practice
    • Discuss contact lens fitting fees with patient
    • Monitor patient flow, ensuring the physician exam rooms are always full
    • Display appropriate Echo for patient when leaving exam room
    • Provide telephone support regarding ocular emergencies, prescription refills, and patient care questions
    • Escort patients to front desk after exam
    • Review exam generated instructions with patients including medications, procedures, post op care, etc.
    • Provide appropriate patient education materials as directed by the doctor


    The Ophthalmic Assistant Qualifications:

    • Possess at least one year of experience in a clinical setting.
    • Experience as an ophthalmic scribe or technician preferred, but not required.
    • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Be a well-organized, team-player with great attention to detail.
    • Demonstrate superior computer skills.
    • Highly energetic with positive attitude.
    • Must be willing to travel to other offices occasionally to meet the demands of business.
    • Must be able to walk and stand for eight hours.
    • Must be able to type or write legibly in a dimly-lit setting.
