Shasta performs surgeries that do not require hospital admission. Procedures are performed in a fully equipped operating room and recovery is under the care of highly skilled nurses. Surgeries performed include procedures related to ophthalmology. We are seeking a Perioperative RN with previous, verifiable experience in eye procedures, such as cataracts, retina, cornea and glaucoma. The position is a fulltime day shift position with variable start times.




  • Assists with the safe transportation of patients to an individual Operating Suite.
  • Assists with patient positioning in accordance with established standards.
  • Assures patient safety/privacy.
  • Consistently performs all scrub duties with efficiency and speed.
  • Responsible for verifying sterility of all supplies prior to use on the surgical field.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining a sterile field.
  • Responsible for all surgical counts according to Center policy in conjunction with the circulating nurse.
  • Anticipates surgeon’s needs for instrumentation, suture, sponges, and other supplies according to technique, procedure, and other special requirements.
  • Assists with the maintenance and care of surgical specimens under the direction of the circulating nurse according to established Center policy.
  • Assists in the care/maintenance of all equipment, instruments, and supplies.
  • Assists with maintaining and updating physician preference cards.
  • Assists with case supply selection for next day’s surgical schedule.
  • Keeps the circulating nurse informed of case progress.
  • Assists with room turnover.
  • Evaluates the quality and cost-effectiveness of supplies, equipment and services within the goals of the Center.
  • Serves as public relations liaison for the Center with patients, physicians and business representatives in the clinical areas.
  • Participates in appropriate meetings and committees.
  • Participates and supports research and improvement studies that can make meaningful contributions to the quality and economy of nursing services.
  • Participates in Quality Assurance Performance Improvement Program.
  • Participates in adverse incident reporting program.
  • Performs daily biological testing of each autoclave.
  • Maintains accurate logs of each biological test
  • Accepts deliveries from outside vendors as needed.



  • High School Graduate or GED
  • Graduate from an Accredited Surgical Technologist Program preferred
  • CORT preferred
  • BLS competent
  • One (1) year clinical experience in the perioperative setting preferable in an ambulatory surgical setting 
  • Principles of organization

  • Computer Skills
