As a Scribe you will provide accurate documentation and summarization of the ocular examination and recommendations, while maintaining patient flow and communication regarding appointment status.

Responsibilities

  • Correctly summarize and document what the doctor says during an examination, including but not limited to, proper charting of the examination: documenting additions to the chief complaint, assessment and recommendations for treatment (including justification of decisions reached when appropriate).
  • Observe the patient and the physician, and assist when appropriate during the exam, including but not limited to: holding the patient’s head in the slit lamp, providing additional medications and/or instruments, following directions in a medical emergency.
  • Make sure all exam rooms are ready and prepped for work up tech to start patients in the morning.
  • Maintain patient flow, by ensuring a minimum of two patient rooms are always occupied.  Remain available to the doctor and limit time away from the doctor and the patient
  • Assist physician with laser procedures.  Assist physician with minor surgery, maintaining practice standards of sterile techniques and infection control.
  • Knowledge of private clinical procedure that may require labs, specimen collection, lab pick-up/preparation and scheduling.
  • Perform autoclaving and maintenance of instrument sterility.
  • When applicable, provide accurate spectacle or contact lens prescriptions and/or medication prescriptions for the doctor’s signature prior to the completion of the examination.
  • When appropriate, complete the coding template, providing direction to the patient prior to following the physician.  Guide patient to front desk after completion of exam and ensure proper follow-up appointments are made.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to document and apply correct ICD-10 and CPT Codes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrates respect for patients and staff.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, demonstrates respect for patients and staff.
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with strong attention to detail.
  • Legible handwriting and computer literacy, effectively able to navigate NG/MS
  • Team player attitude

Qualifications

  • High school diploma.
  • Fluent in English, bilingual preferred.
  • Two years experience in a medical office.
  • Excellent spelling ability, including medical terminology.
  • Ability to document and apply correct ICD-10 and CPT Codes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrates respect for patients and staff.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, demonstrates respect for patients and staff.
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with strong attention to detail.
  • Legible handwriting and computer literacy, effectively able to navigate NG/MS
  • Team player attitude
