Milauskas Eye Institute is seeking active, engaged, and enthusiastic team members who want to work closely with patients and care givers in a non-clinical role. Our Financial Clearance Specialists are a vital member of the healthcare team, and are responsible for providing world class customer service to clients.

 

The Financial Clearance Specialist completes pre-registration activities (insurance verification, prior authorization and retrieving referrals, collecting and verifying demographics as needed), and informs patients of his/her liability. The role may require payment collection either over the phone or in person. Assures confidential treatment of all communications written and verbal.  The Financial Clearance Specialist must be capable of making decisions and working independently to achieve all departmental functions, as well as maintaining an in-depth understanding of job duties, roles, responsibilities and changes. The role requires Specialists to also do their best to minimize front-end related denials and maximize reimbursements.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for timely and accurate pre-registration activities including retrieval of referrals, obtaining prior authorizations, and collecting patient responsibility when appropriate
  • Documents and obtains benefits information and prior authorization status in current practice management software as outlined in the Policies and Procedures (i.e. Benefit Eligibility)
  • Contacts physician and/or insurance company to resolve issues regarding prior authorization and/or referrals
  • Calculates patient financial responsibility and is prepared to collect or provide a quote via phone or make payment arrangement as per established policies, including Payment Card Industry (PCI) guidelines
  • Courteously and professionally helps patients understand their financial obligations including: co-pays, deductibles, and co-insurance
  • Collects sensitive patient data involving patient’s medical condition, as well as pertinent demographic and insurance information as needed to perform pre-registration activities
  • Follows-up to obtain any information that is not received from the patient during scheduling
  • Maintains accurate record of patient financial responsibility for all patients with amounts owed, utilizing revenue tracking system as determined by management

Qualifications

The Financial Clearance Specialist Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED is required with some college education preferred

  • Two or more years’ experience working in a medical environment preferred

  • Customer service experience preferred

  • Experience with data entry

  • Experience with EHR and EPM, NextGen is strongly preferred but not required
