Under the general direction of the Manager of Revenue Cycle Management, the Payment Posting Associate is responsible for positing all payments received for services, regardless of the source, according to the terms or conditions based on the dates of service and the insurance contracts. This role is crucial to ensuring that the general ledger accurately reflects all payments made to the organization. The position is a part of the billing team and will work to support the goals of the department.

Responsibilities

  • Post insurance payments to patient accounts from insurance company explanation of benefits
  • Post ERA’s (835 data file format)
  • Bill patient deductible and co-insurance when applicable
  • Bill patient co-payments when applicable
  • Research correct ICD and CPT codes to get claims paid
  • Work the unapplied balances prior to end of month each month
  • Compute percentages and totals according to insurance EOB’s, compare results with recorded entries, list discrepancies, and process/post adjustments to customer accounts as needed
  • Prepare and balance the daily deposit to assure accuracy to the patient’s account and the general ledger
  • Examine payments made by medical insurance payers, interest and account payments, cash receipts, invoices, and similar items to verify accuracy of recorded data on customer accounts
  • Maintain organized filing system for completed batches

Qualifications

  • High school diploma is required
  • Undergraduate Degree preferred
  • Medical/ Vision billing and payment posting experience preferred
  • A/R follow up preferred
  • Experience in Ophthalmology and NextGen is preferred
  • Experience with Excel and word preferred
