Katzen Eye Group is searching for an enthusiastic, patient-focused, full-time Surgical Coordinator for our Lutherville, MD office with occasional travel to Rosedale, Mercy and Bel Air, dependent upon the demands of business. Our Top Candidates will have at least two years of experience working as a Surgical Coordinator in a very busy practice, preferably ophthalmology or another medical specialty, or other busy office administrative experience.

The Surgical Coordinator’s role includes: taking responsibility and accountability for the patient during all phases of the surgery process; generating and coordinating the necessary information and arrangements for patient surgery and patient medical clearances;  using comprehensive knowledge to supervise the surgery process and act as a liaison between the ophthalmologist and the patient by being the primary point of contact; exercise compassion and patience as most patients may be apprehensive.

 

This position will require working in partnership with administrative and clinical staff, maintaining a cooperative interaction between all departments. Effective execution of this role will require the ability to prioritize a heavy workload and respond to the needs of the patients and other staff, including the ophthalmologist, efficiently and calmly.

 

Responsibilities

  • Establish a rapport with patients through initial introduction
  • Explain treatment procedures and review applicable options including doctor recommendations for optimal visual outcomes
  • Confirm all referrals, and medical clearances, escribe eye drops and review detailed  drop instructions with patient
  • Verify insurance information and collect all payments related to surgery including copays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket fees
  • Set surgery date and schedule all pre- and post-operative appointments related to surgery
  • Answer inbound and outbound phone calls with appropriate telephone etiquette
  • Review all pre-surgery processes including physician instructions
  • Coordinate all pre-surgical ophthalmological scans as instructed by doctor
  • Must be willing to travel between locations to support clinic operations (only applicable for multi-location practices)
  • Execute duties of position in a professional and courteous manner
  • Handle sensitive information in a confidential manner
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Must be compassionate and able to establish confidence and trust with patients
  • Must have the ability to remain calm and professional under pressure or stress
  • Highly energetic with a positive attitude
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Create and maintain positive interpersonal relationships
  • Ability to perform as part of a team as well as work independently
