Shasta Eye Medical Group is searching for an enthusiastic, patient focused, full time (generally Monday through Thursday) Medical Records Clerk with some Patient Services Representative responsibilities for our Ambulatory Surgical Center in Redding, Callifornia. Our preferred candidates will bring at least one year of medical office front desk experience.

The Medical Correspondent will play a crucial role in maintaining and managing patient medical records, ensuring their accuracy, confidentiality, and accessibility when needed by healthcare providers and authorized personnel. You will be responsible for organizing, updating, and safeguarding patient information while adhering to all relevant healthcare regulations and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately and consistently maintain patient medical records, ensuring they are complete and up to date
  • Create new records for incoming patients and update existing records as needed
  • Enter patient information into the electronic health record (EHR) system with precision and attention to detail
  • Ensure all data entered is compliant with healthcare privacy regulations (HIPAA) and facility policies
  • Respond to requests for medical records from healthcare professionals, insurance companies, and patients, adhering to established protocols for release of information
  • Coordinate the release of records, ensuring proper authorization and documentation
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and security of patient records, following HIPAA guidelines
  • Periodically review and identify records that are eligible for archiving according to facility policies
  • Ensure the proper storage and retrieval of archived records
  • Stay up to date with relevant regulations, such as HIPAA, and ensure compliance in all record-keeping activities
  • Train new staff members on medical record management processes
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma
  • Previous experience in medical records management or a related field is a plus
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and EHR systems
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Familiarity with healthcare privacy regulations (HIPAA)
  • Proficiency in computer applications and data entry
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
