Candidate MUST bring at least five years of high volume, multi-discipline ophthalmology billing management experience to be considered for this position. Experience with NextGen AR billing software is highly preferred.

The Billing Manager is responsible for the oversight of the insurance department including all aspects of billing, posting, collections, employee management, refunds, verifications, pre-certifications, and referrals while adhering to existing contracts, policies or regulations. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Examine billing systems to ensure their accuracy through routine audits
  • Ensure claims are correctly submitted and denials are appealed and resubmitted within the timeframe for filing consideration
  • Manage the investigation and resolution of billing discrepancies and errors
  • Supervise billing and collections processes to guarantee optimization in work-flow
  • Review unpaid patient balances and establish payment arrangements
  • Follow-up on overdue accounts and secure payments
  • Prepare bi-monthly charges report for clinic
  • Manage accounts receivable reports
  • Respond to inquiries and resolve issues related to medical billing tasks
  • Support co-workers with billing, insurance or account inquiries and provide assistance
  • Handle sensitive information in a confidential manner
  • Respond and assist with physician coding questions
  • Act as a liaison between practice, physicians, staff, patients, and billing office
  • Conduct routine staff meetings to review team performance and communicate department initiatives and expectations
  • Primary contact for addressing patient billing complaints 
  • Execute duties of position in a professional and courteous manner
  • Perform additional tasks as directed

Qualifications

  • 5 years of RCM, medical collections, claims processing, and/or AR experience is required with at least 2 of those years of experience in a management/supervisory capacity.
  • Medical billing experience must include Medicare, managed care and commercial insurance carriers
  • High school diploma is required
  • Undergraduate Degree preferred
  • Experience in ophthalmology billing is required and NextGen experience is preferred
